New degaussing wand announced28-Nov-2012
Bartington Instruments has released a new degaussing wand. The mains powered 39cm instrument generates an alternating magnetic field of ±100μT at 50/60Hz, and is used for removing accumulated magnetic fields from equipment and instrumentation.
Instruments and equipment that interact with other magnetic fields can become permanently magnetised in ways that adversely affect their performance. This is particularly undesirable in the case of instruments used to measure magnetic fields in the first place.
The wand can also be used in conjunction with Bartington’s Magnetic Shield, as even small imperfections in the shield can lead to magnetism accumulating. The degaussing wand ensures that it stays as close as possible to a zero magnetic field.
