Helmholtz Coil systems
Bartington Instruments supply a range of Helmholtz Coil systems for creating stable homogeneous magnetic fields.
They consist of an assemblies of up to three pairs of coils, each generating a field along a specific axis, along with a power amplifier (PA1) and control unit (CU1) to interface with the PXI-based control system. They are supplied with a mounting table to hold the test item duting operation. For the HC-1 single coil pairs and two-axis coil configurations are available in any combination.
The coil pairs generate a homogeneous magnetic field, up to 1mT at DC and up to 100μT at 5kHz.
They are used for calibration and testing of magnetic instruments, and in laboratories for producing stable magnetic environments.
HC1 HC1 has a coil diameter of 500mm, and can produce a 0.1% homogeneous field of volume 260 cm 3
HC2 Designed for testing larger items, the HC2 has a coil diameter of 1m, and produces a homogeneous field of volume 14000cm3 with < 1% error, or 2500cm3 with < 0.1% error. For ease of shipping and installation the HC2 comes in a flat-pack form for customer assembly.
HC9 This is the smallest of Bartington Instruments' range of Helmholtz Coils, with a nominal coil diameter of 350mm. It can generate a homogeneous magnetic field of up to 1mT from DC to 440Hz, over 100μT at 5kHz. The HC9 produces a < 0.1% error homogeneous field of volume 175cm3 , or a < 1% error homogeneous field of 1150cm3.
Ferronato™ Coils For testing larger objects Instruments can supply Helmholtz coil sets manufactured by Serviciencia S.L., which are compatible with the Bartington PA1 and CU1 systems. These offer coil diameters of 1.3m (BH1300) and 2m (BHC2000).

Degaussing Wand This is a handheld instrument that produces an alternating field to disrupt the magnetic domains within any instrumentation, thereby removing accumulated magnetism.
Magnetic Shields Bartington Instruments’ Magnetic Shields are cylinders of the alloy Mumetal that attenuate the Earth’s field of ~50,000nT to a level of ~1nT. They can be supplied open-ended or with capped ends to reduce noise.
