Stratigraphic Core Correlation

Magnetic susceptibility can be used to determine the magnetic properties of samples. This can be used in core analysis work for mineral exploration, to determine the nature and content of ores present in clippings and cores. The MS3 and MS2C sensors are typically used for core analysis. Typical applications include iron ore exploration and diamond exploration. More recently, research carried out in petrophysics (oil & gas industry) shows that magnetic susceptibility provides a good proxy for permeability measurements, and are obtained with little or no core preparation required, in contrast to other laboratory-based analysis. Magnetic susceptibility can be used in the field for core analysis, and a rapid assessment of permeability parameters, which is critical to the evaluation of a reservoir. Here again the MS2C and MS3 can be used for this work on cores, alongside the MS2E and MS2B for increased spatial accuracy.
