Magnetometers used on spacecraft may have multiple roles. A common role is to use the Earth’s magnetic field to determine the position of the satellite. Spacemag-lite can be used for this purpose. Spacemag-lite is designed using COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) components., It is used mainly on Cubesats, but it is suited to use on other platforms. The Mag-13 is used in lower altitude systems, such as in sounding rockets. The Mag648/649 and Mag-13 are used for the same purpose aboard high-altitude balloons.
